Disc-# Rec-# Object Year Discoverer/NotesFollowing the last discovery of Mechain, William Herschel started his extended scan of the skies for nebulae, scoring his first discovery on September 7, 1782, less than half a year after the discovery of M107. Herschel, assisted by his sister Caroline who was also an avid observer, discovered 1000 objects within the next 2.5 years, a second thousand to December 1788, and a final 500 until 1802.
